Case Study: Pareto Intelligence — New Hire Welcome Kit
Client: Pareto Intelligence
Recognition: Winner — 2022 GDUSA American Inhouse Design Awards™
Overview
As part of the internal branding and employee experience initiative at Pareto Intelligence, a customized New Hire Welcome Kit was designed to support onboarding, reinforce company culture, and create a memorable first impression for new team members. The project was recognized in the Graphic Design USA American Inhouse Design Awards™, which highlights outstanding work created by in‑house teams for their organizations.
New employee onboarding is a crucial moment in establishing long‑term engagement. This project aimed to elevate the onboarding experience with branded materials that communicate Pareto’s values and support a sense of belonging from day one.
Challenge
Pareto Intelligence sought to bring a human, welcoming experience to what can often feel like administrative onboarding. The challenge was multi‑faceted:
• Design materials that feel warm, engaging, and reflective of company culture
• Include practical tools and resources that help new hires feel prepared
• Ensure consistency with the existing brand while adding a more personal touch
• Craft a physical and digital kit that could be appreciated by diverse new employees
The goal was not just to distribute information, but to create an emotional connection from the first interaction for employees who were working remotely.
Approach
The design process centered around understanding what new hires experience in their first week and tailoring the kit to support their emotional and practical needs.
Key strategic elements included:
• Conducting a brief internal needs assessment of what new hires felt was missing from onboarding
• Identifying ways to make the content clear, friendly, and visually engaging
• Leveraging brand colors, typography, and visual language to reinforce identity without feeling formal or corporate
• Designing with modular components so elements could be updated or localized as needed
The approach balanced brand consistency with human‑centered design, ensuring that the kit communicated Pareto’s values as both a workplace and a professional community.
Solution
The final New Hire Welcome Kit included a suite of branded materials designed to be both useful and inspiring:
• Welcome guidebook: thoughtfully designed with visual hierarchy to help new hires navigate key policies, team structures, and benefit insights
• Brand‑centric collateral: posters or cards that highlight mission, values, and culture touchstones
• Practical items: stationery, access cards, checklists, or onboarding itineraries that support day‑one productivity
• Digital companion files: optimized resources for remote employees to access with a consistent experience
Every component was crafted to be easy to digest, visually engaging, and welcoming, creating a unified experience across physical and digital touchpoints.
Outcome
The project successfully transformed the onboarding experience into a more strategic, memorable, and brandedmoment for new hires. The welcome kit:
• Reinforced company culture and values immediately upon joining
• Delivered key practical information in an accessible and engaging format
• Strengthened internal brand perception among employees
Most notably, it was honored with a 2022 American Inhouse Design Award from Graphic Design USA, an award that recognizes excellence in internal and external communications created by in‑house design teams. This honor underscores the project’s effectiveness in balancing creativity with clear business and people‑focused outcomes.
